Every year, the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona holds the annual HungerWalk. HungerWalk is the Community Food Bank’s signature event—an annual opportunity to bring together like-minded community members to raise funds and awareness for the fight against hunger. This year, Sam Levitz proudly sponsored this fun, family-oriented event for walkers of all ages. Sam Levitz is proud to support community events through events like Hunger Walk to end hunger and spread awareness.
This year’s HungerWalk took place on Saturday, September 15th at Sam Lena Park, and Sam Levitz was there to walk. The 1.5-mile walk route took community members through the Community Food Bank’s food pantry, main warehouse, and gardens, to give walkers a behind-the-scenes look at the work we’re doing to end hunger. Walkers learned about hunger, the Community Food Bank’s programs and services, and how they can get involved with our work—all while having fun with family and friends.
Sam Levitz and lots of other sponsors took part in HungerWalk Tucson, the Food Bank’s big annual signature event that raises a majority of their yearly donations. The Levitz team has been a great sponsor and supporter for years and continues to lend their support to the Food Bank.
We spoke with Norma Cable, Public Relations and Marketing Specialist for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, who told us how grateful the Food Bank is for Sam Levitz’s support. “Without the support of the community members, we just wouldn’t be here,” Norma said.
“Every year, Sam Levitz donates their Labor Day Sale proceeds to the Food Bank. This year, their goal was $12,000, which was incredible,” stated Nancy. Their donations are very generous and go a long way to help people and families who need food in Arizona. We feed close to 200,000 people every year with emergency food assistance, and this operation is extremely important.”
The HungerWalk was a great success! The turnout included about 13,000 walkers in both Green Valley and Tucson. We know hunger is an issue that we deal with everyday as a community, but it might not be on the top of everyone’s mind. Wonderful events like the HungerWalk really help to raise hunger awareness in Arizona and beyond.
