Have you ever wanted to lend a helping hand to the community and really make a difference in the life of a child? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you. Thanks to the holiday initiative taken by Sam Levitz Furniture, you can participate in one of the area’s most successful charitable events. The Blocks for Beds program provides many families in need with a bed and bedding so that children can have a place to sleep.
There are many people who work together to make the program as successful as it is. In fact, Sam Levitz has partnered with other local organizations in an effort to achieve their goal of providing as many families with mattresses as possible. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t any room left for you to participate!
Sam Levitz Furniture is your trusted, local furniture retailer. You can find everything from mattresses to barstools to make your home more comfortable for you and your family, but more importantly, they are active members of the Tucson community. Throughout their years in business, they have had plenty of opportunities to get to know their customers. As a result, it has become even more important for Sam Levitz Furniture to find ways to give back, which has led to the Blocks for Beds program. In fact, Amber Levitz says, “we think every child deserves a good night’s sleep in their very own bed.” With that idea in mind, the company has been working tirelessly to make that possible.
The Blocks for Bed program is part of a holiday project that goes on during the University of Arizona Wildcat basketball season. Sam Levitz partners with the school and other local organizations to donate a mattress with a foundation to deserving families. For every blocked shot during a Wildcat home game, they donate an Ashley or Bed Tech twin size mattress, mattress protector, sheets, a blanket, and pillow. Throughout the season, mattresses can be delivered as often as every week.
Sam Levitz understands that some families in the area can’t afford to have a bed for every child, but sometimes it’s hard to know who needs help. Therefore, the partners and community members refer families in need so that they can provide local children with a quality bed. As the requests come in, Sam Levitz works to fulfill them each week. Since they don’t supply cribs or toddler beds, the program currently aims to serve Tucson residents between the ages of 3 and 18.
Most of the referrals come from the companies and clubs that partner with Sam Levitz to make the Blocks for Beds program a success. They currently work side by side with the local chapter of The Boys and Girls Club, Youth on Their Own, A Hope to Dream, and even local schools. Because these organizations work so closely with youth in the Tucson community, they are able to help Sam Levitz identify children who would make excellent candidates for the program.
How You Can Help
As the saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child.” Therefore, the success of the Blocks for Beds program relies on individuals like you. There are many ways you can contribute as this year to help provide a child with a comfortable bed. For example, you can refer children you know or donate to Sam Levitz or their partners. If you happen to have a business that you believe could donate time, money, or goods, you can also consider partnering with Sam Levitz. Lastly, they are always open to partnering with other organizations that work with youth in the Tucson community.
