Meet a one-of-a-kind Tucson company. The city’s only manufacturer of patio covers. The company that can fabricate customized solutions for shade and living space, including lattice shades, Arizona rooms, screened enclosures, metal roof systems, carports, vinyl siding, awnings and window replacement. Meet Westerner Products. Since 1968, Westerner has done thousands of projects, says long-time owner Dick Dekker, “and we always do it right the first time.”
Westerner can fabricate and install—or supply—almost any shade or living space solution under the sun. Says Mr. Dekker, “We can and will do jobs from $500 to $700,000—everything from skirting for manufactured homes to a metal roof system on a Border Patrol complex.”
One important item the company has built over the years is long-term relationships—and according to Mr. Dekker, that includes not only customers (about 60% of business is repeat customers or referrals) but employees and suppliers. Many of the 23 employees have been with the company for 20 years or more, and one of those is manager Keith Oehme. “Long-time relationships with employees translates to high quality and efficient work,” Oehme explains. “And our strong supplier relationships mean even better value for our customers.”
Still, for all the history and experience, there is still a pride and passion in every job and every product the company fabricates, supplies or installs. “I have a video on my cell phone of an exciting new lattice shade we offer where the slats can open or close, either manually or electrically,” Mr. Oehme says. “I really do love this work.”
