There are approximately 35,000 unemployed disabled men and women in the Tucson area alone. As of September 23rd 2016 Tucson, Arizona has a 70% unemployment rate and an under-utilized work-force for local businesses. In efforts to lessen the amount of unemployed people in the community, The Tucson Convention Center will host a DREAM (Disability and Rehabilitation Employment Awareness Month) job fair on Wednesday October 12th from 10am to 12pm. This is a free event for any and all of those seeking employment.
The DREAM job fair with feature 60 local Tucson businesses. A few businesses registered to participate in the event are the Tucson Medical Center, Jim Click Automotive, Best Buy, Citi Group, The University of Arizona, and more. The job fair is still welcoming businesses to register to attend at no cost.
Job seekers should dress in a professional manner and bring ample copies of their up-to-date resume to share with employers. In addition, it may be beneficial to visit http://dreamjobfair.org/ in advance to research the different employers attending and apply for any positions they have available beforehand. There will be a wide variety of employment opportunities available for all skill-sets and skill-levels. There is no need for pre-registrations, just show up prepared and ready to impress.
Combined efforts of local non-profit organizations and government agencies have put on this event for the last six years to share their resources to assist anyone with a disability find a long-term and fulfilling job. Every October, for the month of D.R.E.A.M (Disability & Rehabilitation Employment Awareness Month) this group comes together to promote events to help the untapped potential of these men and women.
As of right now, there are 11 non-profit organizations and government agencies that co-sponsor all D.R.E.A.M events. They are: The Division of Developmental Disabilities, Easter Seal/Bake Foundation, Linkages, Beacon Group, Goodwill of Southern Arizona, Rehabilitation Services Administration, Tucson Metro Chamber of Commerce, Cenpatico Integrated Care, Direct Center for Independence, The Centers for Habilitation and UCPSA/WorkAbility.
