Residents are enjoying the many advantages of living at Splendido–from spacious Villa Homes to award-winning programming.

Private patios and expansive glass doors that open to breathtaking mountain views, sophisticated fixtures and finishes, and a spacious open floor plan to design around your lifestyle. That’s likely not the picture you imagine when you think about a senior living community, but it’s exactly what residents are experiencing in their Villa Homes at Splendido, a Life Plan Community in Oro Valley.

George and Gabriella Pellinger moved into one of Splendido’s Villa Homes from Savannah, Georgia. “The Villas are spectacular. I think it’s pretty good to wake up and see those mountains, see the snow at the very top and play golf at the very bottom—that’s living!” says George.

Their neighbors, Dick and Sandy Wilson, also moved into a Villa Home in 2020. “Once we saw Splendido, when we saw the Villas, we thought this is a great place to be,” says Dick. The newest of Splendido’s Villa Homes range from 1,456 to 2,711 square feet. Each has an attached garage, two patios, and a contemporary open floor plan.

A Full-Service Lifestyle

Residents enjoy having Splendido take care of the “little things,” including chef-prepared meals, housekeeping and linen service, day-to-day home repairs and maintenance, and concierge services. “I don’t have to worry about the yard!” says George. Gabriella adds, “Or any of the repairs. The great thing is that we can just pick up the phone, and maintenance is absolutely terrific.”

James Edwartoski, executive director of Splendido, explains, “The idea is that day-to-day chores are taken care of, so residents can prioritize what matters most to them, such as focusing on their well-being in our newly renovated 10,000+-square foot fitness center and wellness space, or learning something new through the variety of cultural and educational programs we offer.”

Popular programs include courses offered through the Splendido Intellectual Pursuits Program (SIPP)—two semesters per year of unique educational courses planned by residents, with topics ranging from astronomy to brain health to billiards. Residents also enjoy the Open Studio creative arts series, where they can take advantage of creative guidance, collaborative input, or simply an opportunity to work on individual projects among fellow artists.

Offerings like these undoubtedly played a role in Splendido being ranked the third best senior living community on the continent in wellness initiatives, with a 2021 ICAA NuStep Pinnacle Award. The award honors communities that successfully foster a wellness-centered environment to benefit those who live and work there.

A Plan for the Future

On top of all this, residents are drawn to Splendido because it includes a continuum of living at its on-site health center, where residents have access to assisted living, memory support, rehabilitation, and Medicare-certified skilled nursing, if ever needed.

George says, “In business, part of what they paid me for was to deal with contingencies and think about what may happen. And Splendido has one very important aspect that we didn’t find in the other communities and that’s a program called Life Care.”

Asked what he would say to those who are considering a move to a Life Plan Community like Splendido, Dick has an answer ready: “When you see something that you like, take advantage of it,” he advises. “There’s no sense in putting it off, particularly at this point in your life.”
