- U-Factor: measures how well the window insulates. A lower number means better insulation.
- SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient): measures how much heat the glass lets in. A lower number blocks more heat.
- VT (Visible Transmittance): measures how much natural light comes through. A higher number lets in more light.
- Air Infiltration Rate: measures how much air leaks through the window frame and seals. A lower number means less leakage, which translates into better comfort and lower energy bills, especially during Arizona summers.
These numbers are usually printed right on the window’s energy label, so there’s no need to guess. Comparing them side by side is one of the simplest ways to tell a well-built window from one that will struggle once summer hits.
