Copper is everywhere in our modern lives. It’s in the wires that power our homes, the medical devices that keep us healthy, the renewable energy systems driving us toward a greener future and our national security apparatus. It’s essential for storing and transmitting electricity and is a key part of solar panels, wind turbines, and batteries. Whether lighting up our cities or fueling new technologies, copper is crucial to keeping energy flowing efficiently and sustainably. As our world relies more on advanced technologies, the demand for copper will only increase, making a reliable, local supply essential for meeting the needs of our modern society.
A recent survey of high efficacy voters conducted by the Tucson Metro Chamber, the University of Arizona School of Mining & Mineral Resources, and the Arizona Mining Association revealed broad public support for copper mining in Arizona. Notably, over half of the respondents expressed specific support for the Copper World project. This growing recognition of Copper World’s benefits reflects the importance of mining for Arizona’s economy and workforce, validating our plans to develop the Copper World project.
Projects like Copper World in Arizona are vital to securing this essential resource while reducing dependence on foreign sources. By providing a stable domestic copper supply, Copper World supports sustainable growth and innovation, strengthens local economies, creates lasting well-paying jobs, and maintains high environmental standards. Copper World will help ensure we have the copper resources to meet today’s demands and drive the technologies of a more sustainable future.
With key permit approvals and positive public feedback, the Copper World project is gathering momentum. Each project milestone brings us closer to fulfilling the promise of a secure copper supply. Here’s a look at the progress we’ve made together and how it’s shaping the future of mining in Arizona.
In August 2024, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) incorporated stringent environmental standards into Copper World’s Aquifer Protection Permit. This achievement goes beyond regulatory compliance; it’s a testament to our commitment to environmental responsibility. Even more encouraging, the permit faced no appeals—a green light that lets us move closer to starting construction and operations. It’s a strong foundation, showing that our environmental safeguards lead state standards and align with community values.
Another recent development is the conclusion of a robust public comment period for the Air Quality Permit. Public meetings provided a forum for stakeholders with varying perspectives the opportunity to learn about the permit, submit their comments, and ask questions of ADEQ officials. The strong community participation made a significant impact. Each message of support reflects a community that understands Copper World’s potential to drive economic growth while maintaining environmental integrity. We are deeply grateful for the community’s engagement, which has amplified our mission.
Additionally, the Arizona State Land Department Board of Appeals recently affirmed its valuation decision for a right of way on the land designated for Copper World operations. Valuation of the right of way was at the highest level and of great benefit to the State. This decision sets Copper World on firm footing to realize Arizona’s full copper potential.
With each milestone, the vision for Copper World comes into sharper focus. The steadfast support of the community has been instrumental in driving us forward. Together, we’re building more than a mining project; we’re creating a legacy of opportunity, economic growth, and energy security for Arizona’s communities.
