Tucson International Airport (TUS) has long been known as Arizona’s most convenient airport, and with nearly 4 million passengers expected in 2025, it’s clear that travelers continue to choose TUS for its ease, efficiency, and welcoming environment. Now, the airport is taking its traveler-first approach even further with a series of enhancements focused on comfort, style, and community connection.
A Refreshed Look for a Familiar Favorite
TUS has always been easy to navigate—but now, passengers will enjoy an elevated experience that reflects the airport’s commitment to design, functionality, and care. With support from the airlines and the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) Board, the FY25 budget includes a moderate facility refresh launching in summer 2025. Travelers will soon notice upgraded carpeting in the ticketing lobby and concourses, along with refreshed seating to create a cohesive, modern look. Additional seating has been added to the main lobby to provide more functional spaces for travelers to relax before their flight. Alongside these visual improvements, TUS will be updating and improving its signs to make the airport even easier to navigate. These changes, while subtle, help make TUS not just easier to use—but more memorable, too.
Community Connection Through Art
TUS isn’t just a gateway to the world—it’s a canvas for local creativity. The airport proudly features over 200 works of local and regional art, and that collection is growing with a brand-new mural by acclaimed Tucson artist Victor Navarro. Titled “Tucson Reverie: A Vivid Tribute,” this 208-square-foot mural will be completed in May near the airport’s rental car center. It’s a stunning tribute to Tucson’s iconic landmarks, including San Xavier del Bac, the Pima County Courthouse dome, and “A” Mountain. “This mural doesn’t just depict Tucson,” says Navarro. “It reimagines it, inviting the viewer to step into a living, breathing vision of the city’s soul.” Navarro, a celebrated artist with international exhibitions and multiple degrees including an MBA, brings diversity, emotion, and identity to the forefront of his work. His contributions to TUS highlight the airport’s deep investment in the region’s creative spirit and its goal of offering travelers a true sense of place.
Frontier Airlines Returns
In exciting news for budget-conscious travelers, Frontier Airlines has returned to TUS with ultra-low-cost flights. After a successful start with service to Denver, Frontier is launching a second nonstop route to Las Vegas on May 22, 2025—just in time for summer getaways. With competitive pricing and the ability to customize travel experiences, Frontier gives Southern Arizonans more affordable options to popular destinations. The airport encourages locals to support this new service and help maintain and grow these routes. Booking through FlyTucson.com is a direct way to show that Tucson travelers want more low-cost, convenient flights.
Looking Ahead
While peak travel periods like spring break see strong demand, overall passenger numbers are slightly below projections. With inbound tourism slowing as our summer approaches, the focus shifts to outbound travel. TUS is encouraging the local community to “fly local” and help keep our growing list of routes strong. Thanks to an impressive year in 2024, TUS was able to increase its seat capacity to many destinations. Now, the goal is to fill those seats and continue proving that Southern Arizona’s travelers are ready to support their hometown airport. Whether through art, infrastructure, or affordability, Tucson International Airport continues to invest in what matters: the people it serves. From refreshed spaces and new flights to community-focused initiatives, TUS remains committed to being a catalyst for economic growth and a reflection of Tucson’s vibrant character.
