Eyebrows are expressive of the human emotion, perhaps even more so than the eyes. As such, they have a significant impact on our appearance. They are one of the most distinctive features that make up our faces, and many people spend as much time preening their eyebrows as they do styling their hair or applying makeup.

Above is a before and after photo of a patient who’s eyebrows were surgically reshaped by Dr. Keene (225 grafts each side). Notice how the new eyebrows bring emphasis to his eyes. The patient was very pleased, and felt younger too! The results look natural, with no visible scarring, and surgery is very affordable.

If you have lost your eyebrows, you already know how important they are.

Most people take them for granted, but if you are one of the people who have lost your eyebrows, or have patchy growth in that area, you know how much eyebrows truly affect your overall appearance. Once you have over plucked them, they simply might not grow back. Burns and other injuries can affect them. Medical conditions can cause their loss or damage them. So what do you do about sparse looking eyebrows? We can help.

female_beforeafter.jpgThere is a way to regain thinning or lost eyebrows with real hair. We can take hair from your head, and create or enhance your existing eyebrows through incisional follicular unit grafting, the same technique Dr. Keene utilizes in hair restoration surgery. The procedure involves transplanting one haired grafts in the eyebrow area. Small, closely approximated incisions are made, slanted so that the angle of the hairs matches any existing eyebrow hairs. The angle is very acute relative to the skin, so that the hairs lie flat. Dr. Keene may angle different areas of the eyebrow differently.

For example, the mid-section of the eyebrow’s hair often slants at a diagonal toward the eye. Dr. Keene’s aesthetic expertise in the creation of a natural hairline extends itself to the creation of eyebrows. Because the hair used is taken from scalp hair, it must be trimmed to maintain a normal length.

male_beforeafter.jpgDuring the initial consultation, the shape and placement of the new eyebrow is discussed, according to your personal preferences. There is no set formula or recipe to determine what shape of eyebrow will look best on you. There are many  different shapes and sizes of eyebrows, and many different personal aesthetic preferences.

Look at the many types of eyebrows you see on the people you encounter throughout the day, and look at the pictures of the actors and models in magazines to help you gauge your preferences. Of course, you can also tweeze your eyebrows to make them any shape you prefer once the transplant is done.

If you decide that you want to have eyebrow transplants, we encourage you to experiment with drawing in different shapes using an eyebrow pencil. Dr. Keene will work with you, using her surgical expertise, to create the look you desire.

About Physician's Hair Institute

Dr. Keene’s clinic, Physician’s Hair Institute, in Tucson, AZ, utilizes state of the art equipment and techniques in hair transplant surgery. For the FUT graft dissection, this includes a form of magnification that offers improvements over the standard stereoscopic microscope used by most hair restoration surgery practices in graft dissection. It involves a high-resolution digital video camera, in conjunction with a backlight, projected onto an LCD screen. Dr. Keene announced this technique at the Orlando, Florida conference in 2002, and presented the technique in 2003 at the Italian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery conference in Rome, Italy. The technique was well received and has been adapted by many of the top hair restoration clinics. It is an improvement over the stereoscopic microscope in that it allows the doctor more direct supervision, while improving ergonomics for the technicians, and provides excellent magnification for dissection.
